Thinking about what to take to Greece:
- Swimsuits
- Sunscreen
- Sun hats
- Sunglasses
- Beach towels
- Sandals
- Recommended reading: Gilead, Kafka on the Shore, The Nimrod Flipout (already purchased), and Steps to an Ecology of Mind (on order - should arrive this week)
- Bag to carry stuff to the sea and market purchases back to the hotel
- Camera
- Light airy comfortable clothes
- Light shawl for evening breeze
- Bare toes to sink in the sand
- Journal
- Sneakers for sightseeing
- Money for Greek food, market/tourist/gift purchases and postcards
- Birthday candles
Thinking about what to leave behind:
- Computer
- Cell phone
- Grading
- Guilt
- The past
- The future
- Dubbya
Ooh, I'm so jealous! Greece!
Do NOT take your computer - no blogging allowed. Keep your handwritten journal, then share with us when you return.
Aaaaaahhhh!

Oh, but I bet many of those lovely open-air cafes in Greece now have wireless Internet access. And your laptop is so small and light...

Oh to be going somewhere where I could leave Dumbya behind.
Have a wonderful holiday.

Thanks for making up a list of items to take. Now, whenever I have a chance to go to Greece (like probably never) I can use your list! ;-)
Probably it's just as important to leave behind the items you are, as to take the ones you're taking. Good for you!
Just rec'd word a few hours ago of the passing of a favorite professor after 90+ full years. She was significant in my life, as I'm sure you are to so many of your students as I've read your writings.
So enjoy your trip, come back refreshed and full of renewed energy for yourself, loved ones and ... your students!

Ooh, Danny ... you are tempting me ... so mean, so cruel ... to feed my addiction.
Yeah, don't worry, MaryB. Even though I am being tempted by my friendly editor I think I will resist the temptation. I want to try "giving up" the blog!
Chancy and joared: smiles to you both!

Hey, I'm flying there tomorrow morning! If we bump into each other, will we recognize each other? And if not -- have a wonderful time.
That's a good list, and I love both "Gilead" and "Steps to an Ecology of Mind."

Have a great time Richard! I'll look for your vibes out there in the Aegean Sea (although we are leaving a week later than you).
